FediForum Strategy: How Can FediForum Work Even Better For You?

Notes

  • Liked the structured parts. Would like to see more of that. I hope to be able to peruse the notes and get what I need, as attending all the sessions was really hard. This was fantastic!

Jayne: By far the best of 5 FediForums I’ve been to, in terms of the subjects. It’s hard to catch up w/ the sessions we couldn’t visit. Understand why we don’t record, but would there be some way to record things without identifying people? I really want to re-run some of the ones I couldn’t attend. Even just an audio recording.

What value were you hoping to get? Learning, meeting people, influencing the discussion?

  • “being able to ask directly and joining brainstorming”

What if we use a transcription service?

What if we make it so the session leaders can decide to record? How do we want to deal w/ the recordings? Who would deal w/ them?

Cagan: Not enough focus on youth. FediForum for children, to help teach kids from an early age. We can create guides, etc.

Cagan: Also, our sessions weren’t enough for the conversation. Lots of followup needs to happen. Can we have a inter-fedforum work groups meeting to talk aobut the issues we have left?

Cagan: making it truly decentralized would make it easier for more people to join. What if we could make a FediForum profile so we could see all the sessions we attended, share this info with others?

Johannes: We’ve had requests about creating additional events in between, around specific topics. Would be great to see an event for youth, but are we (old people) the right ones to run these?

Ben Pate is starting up some working groups based on discussions from this FediForum.

Johannes: There is now a page on fediforum.org that aggregates by topics. we want to add more pages on the site, and make it more dynamic. Fediforum.org has the largest repository of information about what the open social web / fediverse is all about and what people thinks works and doesn’t, what needs to be built / improved

Kyle: Suggestion to email folks 6 months from now to follow up, and get feedback for the next one.

  • “Outcomes could be an expansion of the notes”

Johannes: we are also being asked to communicate other things, such as beta codes.

When should the next Fediforum be? General consensus on twice per year.

Kyle: What if there was a more thorough synopsis of what happened before? To encourage a continuation of what happened before.

Wish having some kind of introductory presentation, to help people udnerstand what it’s about.

Johannes: We’re working on activitypub.rocks as a landing page for the ActivityPub Fediverse. There’s a new task force in the W3C working group started for this.

Suggestion: Get some volunteers to help facilitate the sessions, to keep the timing tight and make sure notes are taken, etc.
