Notes
-
Mark: Current fediverse is too text-based. You can’t just drop an image in here.
-
Explore interface between arts and technology, digital art interest. Is collabortive/social learning possible?
-
The best place to start: ds106 https://daily.ds106.us/, ``#ds106` on Mastodon: The DS106 Daily Create (@creating@daily.ds106.us")
-
I wonder if some of the need is for more arts-focused communities to convene, regardless of platform
-
Rember those old platforms that we used back in the day? (e.g. E-mailing lists, YahooGroups). When the corporations that hosted those close down, all of the knowledge is lost. Other mainstream platform also have gatekeeping - you have to have an FB account to visit FB groups, for example.
-
Threadiverse vs. Fediverse … vs. photoverse, vs. videoverse vs. … lots.
-
Good observation: pointing out the different needs of those who want to be “influencers” vs. those who want to collaborate online. Those have different core needs.
-
RE: private vs. discoverable: there is no reason a technical implementation cannot offer both. Hometown and Bonfire scopes allow small-group, local, global. Some of them still have to work on the UX/UI. It is also possible to construct a “stack” from different platforms … at least, if we can figure out the single sign-on well enough.
-
Zulip is not Fediverse, but could replace Discord for those instances that also have a “closed doors” need and hop between their public microblog and their group-based work.
What is some cool art stuff for people to see on the FediVerse?
- Bandwagon
- https://mastodon.art
- vernissage.photos.
- Also, there are arts-focused hashtags. tags.pub is new but can be useful for gathering a focused community outside of having single servers.
- https://clocks.brianmoore.com is not “on the Fediverse” but it is a public art display on the web.
- Fairplayer
FediGroups exist, do people know about it and how to use them?
https://joinfediverse.wiki/PieFed
Node.bb (?) <- They are adding federation to this classic discussion board
- need to define your community. Arts is very broad.

Educational Technology
- Where do young artists go to show their art? Building closed platform. Promotion piece.
Business model of corporate social media is not conversation (and so YouTube and TikTok have suppressed reply videos and notifiations about them).
Fediverse Flohmarkt. https://codeberg.org/flohmarkt/flohmarkt https://flohmarkt.fyi/
Self-serve marketing/sales - people are used to the platform doing this work for them
Missing tooling for the next generation to build the next thing.

When will we have our first fedi-viral artist?
