Colonizing a people by destroying their language
-
Questions:
- Who is out there creating content?
-
Think of “Content” as stories that we want to tell each other.
-
Why does @ozoned do this?
- There wasn’t other content out there, I wanted to tell these stories.
- How can I help foster this?
-
What are we lacking?
- This is one of the issues that a podcaster faced. Getting set up on the infrastructure. Figuring out who the “actor” is, to let people follow them. There are too many places to set up an actor (Mastodon, PeerTube, etc).
- Having to set up instances to run content (e.g. setting up a PeerTube)
- Expensive to host - have to make a copy of everything to have it on the instance. For PeerTube, don’t turn on all of the input.
- When using non-Fedi stuff, you still have to make a whole lot of different accounts (YouTube, TikTok)
- Content creators on Mainstream social media have to try and bring people to their platforms (Patreon, etc)
-
Can we use the FediProfile as an aggregator for content creator feeds?
-
Fediverse gives choice: You can be present in multiple places, or just one, and still get the content.
- How to separate different identities (work personna, vs personal life)
-
How do you actually create the content?
- “It’s a pain in the ass”. I have to set up my streaming envirnment, while communicating w/ my guests through Protonmail, then I download the stream and use Blender to fix issues, then I upload it to PeerTube where there are a lot of things to fill out.
- When using twitch, a lot of this happens just in the Twitch app. Can export directly out to YT from here. There’s also a lot of stuff built into Twitch that isn’t available elsewhere: Polls, Bot integration, Tips.
-
I like being a Mastodon user, being able to follow a person on PeerTube - but when the video is sent to Mastodon, the title and description is missing. All I see is the embedded player.
-
Peertube has a tool called an index that allows people to create lists of interesting people to follow.
-
There’s also https://www.fediscovery.org/ for discovery
-
There are people putting peertube videos behind a paywall.
-
toot.wales is a bilingual community (Welsh / English). Browsers don’t have automated support for translation. We built an app to facilitate this.
- @ozoned: Would it be useful to have a translation / automated translation for video content?
- Usefulness of AI translation, alt-text creation.
Welsh lesson: Microwave = oven that pings (how do you spell that?) Popty ping or less interesting is popty microdon (oven that pings or microwave oven)
