Discussion notes, key understandings, outstanding questions, observations, and, if appropriate to this discussion: action items, next steps:
Some things that are needed:
- A way to raise money to fund the documentation efforts. There was a grant for the FediTest suite, can we get more?
- Would love a map to see what all the things are, where all the things are (folks reacted positively to Andy Piper’s sketch of the overview)
- Go put these suggestions about documentaiton as issues in the FedDevs github: https://github.com/fediverse-devnet
- https://developers.google.com/season-of-docs – Google Season of Docs; open for funding applications for another week or so
- https://documentation.divio.com/ – he Grand Unified Theory of Documentation (Tutorials, How to guides, Explanations, Reference)
Good question: How to set up a guide that doesn’t encourage people to write their own implementation, but encourages combining existing things?
Discussion around documentation. If we invite outside groups to contribute it would improve the diversity of documentation and also prevent bigger entities (e.g. Meta) from overwhelmingly become the major source of information.
Discussion around Culture vs. Principles (Principles as being something that can apply across cultures). Principles should be written down as a way to encourage certain culture.
Ben Pate: as a new person, I didn’t have a map. Can we make Andy’s diagram clickable
federation.md
: can this be “raised up” as a thing?
Julian: central directory / indexable to find the routes to info
Johannes: we should have some kind of governance so no single person is a bottleneck and risks being hit by the bus
Nik: Google Season of Docs - open for a little more time
Marc: ActivityPub spec -> apps -> “now a fediverse developer”
Emelia: trust and safety features
Scott M Stolz: president of Hubzilla association, technical writer, offers to help with forming an association, interested in helping admins and devs
