Notes from two sessions.
Much like, PeerTube supports the needs of video folk better than Mastodon. We need something that better supports the needs of Curators, Journalists and Climate Activists. Journalists need to be able to see who has tooted their links. They also need quote tweets. Activists need something like https://joinmobilizon.org/en/ . Curators need article annotations, and filters.
We can and will build systems that better support activists, curators and journalists better than Mastodon does.
Fellow Jitster says:other possibility for bridging: multi-protocol clients? Fellow Jitster says:non-web-based might not have URLs 9:36 Fellow Jitster says:in terms of scale, nostr is about 420,000+ active users, almost all since December: https://primal.net/explore 9:40 Fellow Jitster says:stinkpipe? 9:41 Fellow Jitster says:steampipe? 9:41 Fellow Jitster says:maybe multi-account clients (e.g. Fedilab) could be good starts for this too 9:42 Fellow Jitster says:SteamPipe: https://steampipe.io/ 9:44 Fellow Jitster says:thanks Bob! 9:44 Fellow Jitster says:For a long time, Microsoft was pushing OData as a means to create a consistent interface to dissimilar APIs. See: https://spec.openapis.org/oas/v3.1.0 9:55 Fellow Jitster says:i would prefer a 2.1 Fellow Jitster says:please no major change 10:01 @BreitensteinArt • Marlene Breitenstein says:I'm here, just taking photos out the window above me ... great clouds! 10:22 Chris (@UncensoredNews) says:Po River in Italy dried up thsi year. But they'll be blocked and defederated. 10:49 AaronNGray says:How do I show my video camera image again ? 10:49 Chris (@UncensoredNews) says:no idea. 10:49 AaronNGray says:I chose an option and it disappeared 10:49 Fra - OpenForFuture says:wordpress is decentralised! it's not a single website/domain 10:51 Xtel says:Aaron, check the bottom of the screen... there is a navigation bar that includes a button for turning your camera on/off 10:51 rabble says:if you do algorithms or a search engine for discovery you will be defederated 10:51 AaronNGray says:yes WP .org is open source as well as being a "commercial" wp .com 10:52 Xtel says:The session Marlene is referring to is "Discovery in the Fediverse" 10:53 Chris (@UncensoredNews) says:"The only thing that people learn from history, is that people do not learn from history. " 10:54 Fra - OpenForFuture says:Framasoft actually built a search engine for both video (PeerTube) and events (Mobilizon). Fra - OpenForFuture says:both made by them 10:54 Xtel says:👍 10:54 Fra - OpenForFuture says:the real problem is: not many people are building so Mastodon is concentrating power. nothing new but we can change it 10:55 rabble says:we've got 425,000 active users on nostr in the last 3 months, from a couple thousand. 10:56 AaronNGray says:twitter has x20 of 10Million 10:56 Xtel says: 10:56 Bob Wyman says:FEPs are NOT standards. They are proposals. 10:59 Xtel says:I need to hop off. Great conversation! 11:00 Bob Wyman says:The Fediverse is free to do things that Mastodon's developers may not choose to do. 11:00 rabble says:https://joinmobilizon.org/ 11:01 Bob Wyman says:PeerTube supports the needs of video folk better than Mastodon. Similarly, one could build systems that support Climate Change activists and journalists better than Mastodon does. 11:01 Fra - OpenForFuture says:we need to build "the culture" Fra - OpenForFuture says:that's one of the main issues right now 11:04 Marlene Breitenstein • @BreitensteinArt says:I need to go, thank you all interesting discussion.
